[size=130%]Prizes now awarded! After near two-month selection and judgment, the prizes for the “Capture Chongming” Photography Contest held in September were finally decided. On the first round of selection, there were 97 pictures selected by the judges consisted of professional photographers and the organizer of the event. In the end, 17 works were given awards including two first prizes, five second prizes and ten third prizes. Muhammad Usman from Pakistan and Travis Bothner from Canada won the first prizes. “The winners’ works are not merely good-qualified photographs with high-level professional skills, but also fully present the natural and unique beauty of Chongming Island,” says Song Chao, Deputy Chief of Propaganda Department of Shanghai Municipal Committee, in the course of judgment. During September 20-21, 55 foreigners in Shanghai participated in the photography contest. They are from over 20 countries including France, the United States, Ireland, Australia, Britain, Canada, Colombia, and so on. They took pictures in many sites in Chongming Island, from Dongtan Wetland, Xisha Wetland, Dongping National Forest Park, North Lake, Pearl Lake to some famous ecological farmhouses and fishery homes, recording the beautiful and natural Chongming Island by their own lens. Over 800 pictures were collected by the organizer from the participants. “Most of them are very good and professional works. They took the pictures from different views which gave us a lot of fresh impression,” says Hang Lingbing, senior photographer from Shanghai Daily, also the member of the judgment committee.
